Are You the ‘Unc’ Now?

There are three possible answers to this question, and honestly, all roads lead to the same place.

Short answer: Yes!

Longer answer: Probably yes!

And if you’re asking yourself “what the hell is an unc?” then the third answer is: Hell yeah, you absolutely are!

Welcome to Unc Status, Population: 1,8 billion(millennials worldwide)

Look, if you’ve made it this far in life and you’re still reading fitness content that talks about sustainable habits instead of “this one weird trick,” congratulations, you’ve officially entered unc territory. And you know what? That’s not the insult Gen Z thinks it is.

You’re an unc when:

  • You prioritize injury prevention over looking cool at the gym
  • You choose consistency over intensity because you’ve learned the hard way
  • You actually read ingredient labels instead of just trusting whatever’s trending
  • You know that recovery isn’t optional and sleep isn’t for the weak
  • You’d rather do boring squats that work than viral exercises that hurt

You’re probably an unc when:

  • You catch yourself saying things like “back in my day” about fitness trends from five years ago
  • You think meal prep is more exciting than trying the latest fad diet
  • You actually understand the difference between soreness and pain
  • You choose functional movements over whatever’s getting millions of views
  • You’ve accepted that progress takes months (years), not weeks

You’re definitely an unc when:

  • You had to Google what “unc” means in the first place
  • You remember when “fitness influencer” wasn’t even a job
  • You think a good warm-up is more important than a perfect selfie
  • You’ve survived at least three major fitness trend cycles and can spot the patterns

Embrace Your Inner Unc

Here’s the plot twist: being the unc is actually the upgrade. While Gen Z is chasing the 47th variation of the same core workout and wondering why their back hurts, you’re over here building sustainable strength and actually feeling good in your body.

Unc wisdom includes:

  • Knowing that the best workout is the one you can do for years, not days
  • Understanding that “boring” often means “effective”
  • Choosing movements that serve your life, not your feed
  • Realizing that consistency beats perfection every single time

The unc advantage:

  • You’ve tried enough trends to know what doesn’t work
  • You have enough life experience to spot BS from a mile away
  • You’ve learned that your body is an investment, not a project
  • You understand that health is a marathon, not a sprint
